Meet Kaelyn Gutierrez, a lifestyle content creator based in California. Kaelyn goes out of her comfort zone to try new things and shares them on her YouTube channel. She is fun and entertaining to watch who has a bright personality. Read on to find out more about her journey!
What did you do in college?
I initially went to college for environmental biology! I wanted to be a zoologist and work with big cats which is funny now looking at things like the Netflix show Tiger King and seeing the type of people in that industry that didn’t even go to school. I ended up switching my major to communications before eventually dropping out to pursue other aspects of life. College life wise I had an awesome roommate and we were friends with all the girls on the haul so we would always get into mischievous things with each other around campus at night!
What are the things that matter to you the most?
My relationship with Martin, my boyfriend, is VERY important to me. Martin and I are coming up on 3 years being together. We have 2 dogs (Bayo and Benson) and a Chinchilla named Cherry and they are our LIFE! Also, my relationship with my fans that are from YouTube and Instagram is a top priority. I am forever grateful for them and they mean the world to me. They have given me the life I live now so upholding my relationship and responsibilities to them is important.
What does a typical day in your week look like?
Currently, a typical day in my life goes like this: Wake up and have a cup of coffee with Martin. By the time we are done with our cup, our dogs are letting us know they are ready for their breakfast by staring at us and occasionally giving us a few long talking barks. So we feed them and then get started on our food. I usually take 30minutes to an hour to go through social media and catch up on anything I missed and then get lost in TikTok for a while. Cherry gets her morning hay and feed before I take a shower. Most days I spend a lot of time outside with the dogs in the pool before coming inside for lunch. If I have a video to film I get ready and separate myself from the rest of the house to film. At night we have dinner and a few drinks with our roommates before going into our room where Bayo has already settled himself for bed. Martin and I watch some Netflix and eventually fall asleep. Pretty average but as soon as we live on our own I feel like daily life will pick up a little bit!
Are there key people or books that have moulded you?
My Grandpa Bob has for sure gotten me into my passions of writing and filming. Growing up he always had a camcorder in his hand and filmed my families thanksgivings and summers spent with him and my Grandma. My favourite thing to do was watch the home videos he made when I missed them. He also would set me up on his computer to write my short stories from kindergarten to middle school. He was always writing stories and memories down. You wouldn’t even know he was watching the little things until years later after he passed away and we got copies of stories he wrote and you realized he saw and documented everything in such a sweet compassionate way. He definitely got me into the creative things I do now and there is a piece of him in everything.
How has your experience been in building your community online?
My experience has been amazing honestly! I started youtube in 8th grade and it was such a fun way to express myself. In 2016 I had my first video go viral hitting over a million views and that is what started my career online. I grew a fan base of the coolest people that enjoy the weird things I do. So far things have been so positive and fun and I am so so lucky for what I have.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
I see myself having kids in a few years, to be honest. I want to start a family but continue doing the creative things both Martin and I do. I see us having a couple of successful endeavours in the near future and getting a house of our own. I want to get started in the entertainment business so in the future I will hopefully have a career in acting!
