Meet Kimberley Herrald, a personal stylist and mom to two beautiful children based in Australia. Kimberley realized that there was a huge demand in personal shopping services for clients and hence she creates and now authors the platform, The Style Side where she helps one to refresh their wardrobe and create their style with confidence. Read on to find out more about her work and journey!

What did you do in college?

I studied Fashion Design in my final two years at school and then went on to study Fashion Business. I discovered I didn’t have the patience for sewing and design but that I could still pursue my passion for fashion by going into styling.

What are the things that matter to you the most?

The things that matter to me most are my children and the environment. It has taken me some time to reconcile my love for fashion with my very green heart – the fashion industry is one of the worst global polluters in the world, and at times I have almost walked away from it entirely. I chose instead to educate myself and steer my business away from fast fashion – I promote pre-loved fashion, I encourage my clients to do the same and only work with brands that align with my values.

What does a typical day in your week look like?

I am up ultra-early, thanks to my energetic kids! I work out every morning because it keeps me sane. Then I follow up my emails, shoot images for my blog, brand collaborations or Instagram, write articles and source clothing items for my clients which I do predominantly online. I try to finish up by mid-afternoon, so I am free to hang out with my kids, kick the footy, run around and be the tomboy I am at heart.

Are there key people or books that have moulded you?

I was highly influenced by the Olsen Twins growing up – not their younger selves but their step into fashion, their quirky vintage style has inspired me endlessly. I am inspired by my mum’s kindness and my sisters’ styles and characters. Autobiographies are also a massive source of inspiration for me. I usually read one every few days, I am addicted to hearing peoples stories and triumphs over tragedy – I am often tired because I accidentally couldn’t put a book down and was up till all hours turning pages.

How has your experience been in building your community online?

It has been a wild mix of emotions – excitement, joy, fear. I’ve often felt judged for putting my self out there, but I believe overcoming that fear is the only road to success. What I’ve discovered from my online community has, for the most part, been kindness, love and connection. Women who support women make the world go round!

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I see myself not too far from where I am today. I’m happy with my business, my family and the goals I have ticked off. Eventually, I’d like to move into writing (I’ve been writing a book for years but never finish ha), there is an app in the works hopefully launching in early 2021 which is an extension of my website and online styling business. Down the track, I would love to live beside the ocean and foster children. Fashion aside, children are one of my most precious loves and having the opportunity to help a child in need would make me incredibly fulfilled.

We hope you enjoyed it and we thank Kimberley Herrald for this interesting interview.
