Meet Hannah Patten, who is a lifestyle blogger and entrepreneur based in Florida. Hannah is the founder of Hülya Swim, which is an eco-friendly swimwear line with her best friend, Christina Firestone. Holy Swim uses a high tech recycled fabric made out of recycled ghost nets and other ocean debris. Read on to find out more about how she got started and journey towards creating a meaningful business and life.
How did you come up with the idea for Hülya?
Hülya Swim was born through Christina and Hannahs’ passion for enjoying the ocean. Through diving and just hanging out on and by the water they noticed the detrimental effects of pollution in the ocean. This sparked the question of how they can do their part in helping clean the ocean. Not only did they want to make a difference, but they wanted to create a way for everyone to be part of it along with educating people on why it was important. A swimsuit is not only a staple item most people have in their wardrobe, but it was the item that Christina and Hannah had the most of. They decided that why not enjoy the ocean in a swimsuit that is also helping save it. Thus, Hülya Swim was born.
Did you Start the venture alone?
No. Christina and Hannah started the company together. Also, they received a tremendous amount of support from friends and family encouraging them to follow their dreams.
What was the hardest part in the early stages of the company’s growth?
The hardest part for Hülyas growth in the early stages of development was launching it. It seems silly but when you work so hard on a project the scariest part is releasing it to the public. Once Hülya was launched we received a lot of encouragement which eased the anxiety of starting a new business and pushed the company to keep growing.
Do you think luck played a role in the success of Hülya?
We think luck is directly related to hard work. If there is something you truly believe in the dedication and effort you put into the project will develop into success.
How has the swimwear industry changed in the last year?
The swimwear industry as a whole is slowly shifting towards a more sustainable industry. For us at Hülya we are very excited about this because in our mission we want everyone to do right by the ocean. We cannot wait to see what sustainable fashion could accomplish in the future.
What advice would you give to a swimwear company just starting their business online?
Hülya Swim believes in the power that an online business can have on the public. We want to show we are real people making a difference to encourage people that they could do the same. Online it is important to not create fake or alternate realities that do not seem achievable by someone.
We hope you enjoyed it and we thank Hannah Patten for this interesting interview.
