Meet Kaitlin Marianelli, a model and creative based in Hong Kong. She is a nanoengineering graduate and shares lifestyle content with her audience. Read on to find out more about her work and journey!

What did you study in college?

I have a bachelor’s degree in Nanomaterials Engineering and Management and a master’s degree in International Business.

What are the things that matter to you most?

Family has always been important to me, and I would never have had the courage to pursue such vastly different and contrasting career paths (engineering and modelling) without the support of my family. Also, given the current global environmental crisis, I’m very passionate about sustainability and wildlife conservation. I think it’s so important now more than ever to be forward-thinking in the way that we live our daily lives so that we can reverse a lot of the damage we’ve caused the planet.

What does a typical day in your week look like?

A typical day for me is mostly taken up by my day job (I work remotely during the pandemic). Still, besides work, I try to stay sane by exercising and taking classes on Masterclass (currently taking Neil deGrasse Tyson’s course). In my spare time, I love exploring new places and doing lifestyle shoots for my Instagram feed. I’m also learning to code for fun!

Are there key people or books that have moulded you?

My grandfather was a big influence for me growing up and inspired me to pursue engineering as a career. I also look up to Neil deGrasse Tyson because he promotes and empowers scientific literacy. No modelling idols – I am a nerd at heart. As for books, I love the Alchemist – a very cute fable that has a lot of profound life lessons.

Tell us something we don’t know about the creator’s work?

Something that a lot of people don’t know about me (but probably knows now after reading my previous answers) is that I’m a massive nerd at heart, and that modelling/content creation is not my main gig. I am an engineering grad above all else, and I am currently trying to think of a way to balance my highly conflicting passions better somehow (if you have any tips, hit me up)!

How has your experience been in building your community online?

Building my online community has been a steady climb – working as a fashion model has helped with that. Shooting for well-known brands and photographers have had the most significant impact on my growth. Since I am from Canada but spent most of my time modelling in Asia, I have built a diverse base that spans many different countries, so it’s interesting interacting with followers from across the world. Singapore happens to be one of the top countries where my followers are from.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I see myself moving to LA in pursuit of better work opportunities (in both modelling and my fields of study) and better weather! As much as I love my hometown of Toronto, I am a bit tired of the cold, and the modelling landscape is not very strong. Within the year I would like to be settled in LA with an agency and also secure a job in the engineering field, hopefully, involved in impactful projects involving sustainability, eco-tourism, and/or nanotechnology.

We hope you enjoyed it and we thank Kaitlin Marianelli for this interesting interview.
